2 Fairytale towns to visit in Alsace at Christmas

1-Strasbourg

Unlike the other small towns of Alsace, Strasbourg has a more city vibe. It is also the official seat of the European Union. Although it is a larger city, it retains its character with a picturesque old town and the magnificent Cathedral. One of the best things to do is to take a stroll through its city center with the half-timbered buildings and canals. They create a magical ambiance, especially at Christmas.

As you may know from the famous Instagram photos, Strasbourg is the capital of Christmas. That’s why we decided to visit it at this time of the year. Indeed, it has one of the most beautiful Christmas market we’ve ever been to, at least in Europe ! Wooden Christmas cabins, tiny lights, Christmas ornaments, beautifully decorated building facades and of course Christmas trees make Strasbourg very festive. If you want to avoid the crowds, we highly recommend visiting in early December, as it gets overbooked and overcrowded during Christmas. If you want to find a more affordable accomondation, we advise you to choose Strasboug as your base, since it is a bigger city and offers more economic options, especially at Christmas.

2-Colmar

It is a unique place to add to your Christmas bucket list. Its architectural beauty and authenticity left us speechless. We would definitely come back to see how it looks like in spring or summer, under the sun and with colorful flowers everywhere. But, at Christmas, it’s simply magical with a unique ambiance that instantly steals your heart. Even with the cold weather, it was a delight get lost in its festive narrow alleys trying all the delicious local food and wine.

Colmar has many romantic corners full of colors. So, it is the perfect Christmas getaway not only for families, but also for couples. There’s nothing more beautiful and romantic than walking in little alleys feeling the  spirit of Christmas and having your love by your side. If you are looking for the most romantic Christmas destinations in France or Europe, then consider visiting for some magic.
