5 Most Instagrammable places to visit in Italy

1-Florence

We couldn’t start our list of the most Instagrammable places without mentioning Florence. It is undoubtedly one of the most charming cities not only in Italy, but also in Europe. Its glorious architecture, numerous historical and cultural sites, cozy cafés and restaurants and its vibrant ambiance make it one of the most visited and photographed places in the world. Florence is located in the heart of Tuscany. So, you can easily make day trips to other nearby cities such as Pisa, Sienna and San Gimignano. Keep in mind that Tuscany produces some of the best Italian wines that you can taste even in Florence ! Wine tasting on its streets is actually one of the most popular and fun activities. If you are a wine lover like us, you will love it.

Due to the large number of tourists, it’s not the easiest place to create beautiful photo and video content, especially during the peak season (June to August). We visited last August and most places were already crowded at 8am. That’s why we strongly advise you to arrive as early as possible to the famous spots of Firenze. Otherwise, your photos or videos will be full of tourists ! Since it is one of the most interesting places in Italy, we highly recommend visiting it even as a day trip. Best places to visit in Florence : Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore (Duomo Florence), Piazza del Duomo, Ponte Vecchio, Piazzale Michelangelo, Uffizi Gallery.

2-Portofino

Welcome to Portofino ! From the first moment you arrive at this special Italian destination, you will be amazed by its natural beauty. Although it is considered one of the most luxurious places, we can assure you that every penny is worth it ! But, Portofino is much more than just another luxury destination. The turquoise waters, amazing Mediterranean beaches and stunning panoramic views make it one of the best places we have ever visited. Enjoying your morning coffee or a meal with these incredible views is the definition of the perfect summer vacation.  Since it’s an expensive trip, we highly recommend taking a day trip to Portofino (especially if you are on a budget).

Creating content there is again not the easiest thing, as it is very crowded in the summer. It is also a tiny place. So, the combination of many tourists and its size makes content creation more difficult. But, obviously you can find solutions. The best advice we could give you is to wake up and get to each photo spot at sunrise or at least early in the morning. Having these places to yourself is really worth the effort. Best places to visit in Portofino : Marina di Portofino, Castello Brown, Baia Cannone, Baia di Paraggi (Paraggi Bay) and Faro di Portofino. As Portofino has stunning beaches, we highly recommend a snorkeling tour to enjoy the clear waters and underwater life !

3-Cinque Terre

Cinque Terre is one of the most beautiful and lively places on the Ligurian Coast. Its architecture with colorful old buildings creates the perfect atmosphere, ideal for experiencing your own “Dolce Vita”. But, what exactly is Cinque Terre ? It comprises 5 villages (Riomaggiore, Vernazza, Manorola, Corniglia and Monterosso al Mare). It is considered one of the best places in the world for hiking, as there are trails that connect the villages. Each one of the five villages has its own beauty and “personality. As you can guess, Cinque Terre is an expensive summer destination. So, we strongly recommend that you do your research before visiting ! Since it is a nearby destination to Genoa, Florence or Milan, many visit it as a day trip. But, of course, if you want to get a good taste of these 5 villages, you need at least 48 hours

There are also many photo spots in Cinque Terre. That’s why we suggest you know the exact photo spots before visiting. Otherwise, you will waste your time and it will be difficult to take beautiful photos without hundreds of tourists in your photos. Cinque Terre is one of those places where you have to wake up very early and know exactly what you are interested in capturing !

4-Lake Como (Bellagio)

Lake Como is one of the most charming places in Italy. Due to its geographical position, it is an easily accessible destination from Milan, Dolomites, Lugano etc. It is the absolute synonym of luxury. Many Hollywood stars including George Clooney bought properties in this area. The most picturesque and perhaps most famous place is Bellagio. It is a tiny town located on the lake Como. You can access either by car or by ferry which is the easiest and most convenient way. Keep in mind that it is one of the most popular places in the world ! So, expect crowds even in the off season. We visited in March and it was full of tourists during the day. Best places to visit in Bellagio : viewpoint on Via Giuseppe Garibaldi, village of Pescallo and Punta Spartivento.

5-Milan

To be honest, Milan is our least favourite place in Italy, as it is a big and busy city. But, we recommend it as a starting point for your Italian trips. It has some of the best Instagrammable places in Italy. So, it’s worth visiting for its architectural masterpieces, fashion and of course gelato. Best places to visit in Milan : Duomo di Milano and Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. You can easily combine your trip to Milan with day trips to Lake Como and Bergamo. The most convenient way to visit both is by train.
