8 Bucket list things to do in Nice

1-Watch the sunset in Promenade des Anglais

The first bucket list thing to do in Nice could not be other than watching the sunset on one of the best beaches called “Promenade des Anglais”. It is considered one of the best coastlines not only in the South of France, but in France in general. The magical pastel colors of the sky and the turquoise color of the water create a unique scenery. That’s why we can also name it as one of the most romantic things to do with your love in Nice. There are several things to do in this amazing place. Strolling along the Promenade des Anglais, going down to the beach enjoying the stunning Mediterranean views or having your drinks or a meal in the beachfront bars or restaurants are great options to fully experience its beauty at sunset. If you like cycling, jogging or just walking, we can assure you that it is one of the best locations for such activities.

2-Walk around Hotel Negresco

Hotel Negresco is one of those cases where a hotel is an attraction or Instagrammable place of the city and for good reason. This masterpiece looks like a living art. It is equally beautiful inside and out ! It is located on the Promenade des Anglais. As a very photogenic hotel, it attracts not only tourists, but also photography enthusiasts. However, if you want to photograph it with empty streets, from a certain distance to fully capture it, we strongly advise you to get there as early as possible, especially during the peak summer season.

3-Enjoy a morning on the Promenade des Anglais

In case you need to spend a relaxing morning on the beach, the Promenade des Anglais is the place to be. There are many free spots where you can enjoy your morning coffee or breakfast and of course lay down your towel and take a dip in these amazing waters during the summer and maybe autumn months. The beauty of this beach is shocking. But, it is one of the most crowded in the summer. So try to come before 10 am. We also highly recommend doing a hop-on and hop-off seightseeing tour. It’s one of the best ways to get to know a new city and have fun !

4-Go to Castle Hill of Nice (Colline du Château)

The Castle Hill of Nice (Colline du Château in French) is a must-visit place, especially if you are looking for the most breathtaking panoramic view of Nice. To access this amazing location, you have to climb the stairs or take the free elevator (located at the end of the Promenade des Anglais). It’s really worth your effort, as the view over Nice and the endless blue will truly reward you. At the top, there is also a small park with a waterfall that is interesting to visit. Here you will find a little café and toilets. The best time to go is just before sunset to enjoy this stunning view under the pastel colors. We personally visited at noon and it was very peacefull and still so beautiful.

5-Visit the Place Masséna

Place Masséna is located in the heart of Nice and is considered the most photogenic square in the city. It has a checkerboard pattern on the ground, a fountain and the bright red building around. If you want to take beautiful photos or just take a walk without crowds, we can strongly advise you to come before 8am. As it is located in the center, you can easily get there from Gare de Nice (train station), Promenade des Anglais and Notre Dame de Nice. Galleries Lafayette is within walking distance if you want to go shopping.

6-Walk around the Phare of Nice (Phare du Port de Nice)

Another amazing place to enjoy the azure waters is the Phare of Nice. You will find it just a few steps from the Old Port of Lympia. It is a quiet place where locals and travelers alike enjoy the tranquility and stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea. But, it gets more crowded in the evening. You can grab a drink and enjoy the wonderful sunset !

7-Explore the Old Town of Nice

You cannot leave Nice without visiting its Old Town. The colorful facades of the old buildings, narrow alleys, palm trees and little parks make it one of the most picturesque old towns you will find in France. Of course you can start your day there enjoying a delicious French breakfast with fresh croissants and hot coffee and then walk and get lost in its colorful streets. The Old town is one the busiest places in Nice, as there are many small businesses such as cafés, restaurants, stores, boutiques etc. Business owners open their businesses quite early. So, plan to go early if you want some relaxing moments enjoying its authentic beauty (same if you want to take pictures).

8-End your day in the Old Port of Nice (Lympia)

After watching the sunset on the Promenade des Anglais, you can easily walk or use public transport to reach the Old Port of Nice called “Lympia”. It is very beautiful late at night with the lights and yachts in the marina. There are many restaurants nearby to get your dinner and enjoy the views.

Bonus Tip : A daytrip to Villefranche-sur-Mer

If you have enough time in Nice and want to visit a unique town located just a few kilometres from Nice, you should definitely visit Villefranche-sur-mer. You can easily access it by local public bus ! Villefranche is one of the most colorful places on the French Riviera with a picturesque old town and a charming port where you can enjoy a delicious seafood meal. It also offers one of the best panoramic views of the Côte d’Azur. We honestly can’t recommend it enough !
