5 Most Instagrammable places to visit in Italy
1-Florence
We could not start our list of the most Instagrammable places without mentioning Florence. It is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful and romantic cities in Italy. Its brilliant architecture, numerous historical and cultural sites, and vibrant life make it one of the most visited and photographed places in the world. Florence is located in the heart of Tuscany. That is why you can easily take day trips to the other nearby towns, such as Pisa, Sienna, and San Gimignano, which are all worth visiting.
Due to the large number of tourists, it is not the easiest place to create beautiful photo and video content, especially during the peak season (June to August). We visited in August, and most places were already crowded at 8 am. So, we strongly advise you to arrive as early as possible at the famous spots of Firenze. Best places to visit in Florence: Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore (Duomo Florence), Piazza del Duomo, Ponte Vecchio, Piazzale Michelangelo, Uffizi Gallery.
2-Portofino
From the first moment you arrive at Portofino, you will be amazed by its natural beauty. Although it is considered one of the most luxurious places, we can assure you that every penny is worth it. Portofino is much more than just another luxury destination. The turquoise waters, amazing Mediterranean beaches, and stunning panoramic views make it one of the best places to visit in Italy. Enjoying your morning coffee or a meal with these incredible views is the definition of the perfect summer vacation. Since it’s an expensive trip, we highly recommend taking a day trip to Portofino (especially if you are on a budget).
Creating content there is not the easiest thing, as it is overpacked in the summer. It is also a tiny village. The best way to take photos without tourists is to get to each photo location at sunrise or at least early in the morning. Best places to visit in Portofino: Marina di Portofino, Castello Brown, Baia Cannone, Baia di Paraggi (Paraggi Bay) and Faro di Portofino. As Portofino has stunning beaches, we highly recommend a snorkeling tour to enjoy the clear waters and underwater life.
3-Cinque Terre
Cinque Terre is one of the most beautiful and lively places on the Ligurian Coast. Its architecture, with colorful old buildings, creates the perfect atmosphere. You can live your own “Dolce Vita”. Cinque means five villages. It consists of the five villages of Riomaggiore, Vernazza, Manarola, Corniglia, and Monterosso al Mare. It is considered one of the best places in the world for hiking, as there are trails connecting the villages. Cinque Terre is also an expensive summer destination. So, we recommend that you do your research before visiting. As it is a nearby destination to Genoa, Florence, or Milan, many visit it as a day trip. Of course, if you want to get a good taste of these 5 villages, you need at least 48 hours.
There are also many photo spots in Cinque Terre. That is why we suggest you know the exact photo spots before visiting. Otherwise, you will waste your time, and it will be difficult to take beautiful photos without hundreds of tourists in your photos. Cinque Terre is one of those places where you have to wake up very early and know exactly what you are interested in capturing!
4-Lake Como (Bellagio)
Lake Como is one of the most charming places in Italy. Due to its geographical position, it is an easily accessible destination from Milan, the Dolomites, Lugano, etc. It is the absolute synonym of luxury. The most picturesque and perhaps most famous place is Bellagio. It is a tiny town located on Lake Como. You can access by car or by ferry, which is the easiest and most convenient way. Since it is one of the most popular places in the world, you should expect crowds even in the off-season. We visited in March, and it was full of tourists during the day. Best places to visit in Bellagio: the viewpoint on Via Giuseppe Garibaldi, the village of Pescallo, and Punta Spartivento.
5-Milan
To be honest, Milan is our least favorite place in Italy, as it is a bustling city. However, we recommend it as a starting point for your Italian trips. It has some of the best Instagrammable places in Italy. So, it is worth visiting for its architectural masterpieces, fashion, and luxurious lifestyle. Best places to visit in Milan: Duomo di Milano and Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. You can easily take day trips to Lake Como and Bergamo from Milan. The most convenient way to visit both is by train.
Final Thoughts
Italy is our favorite country in Europe. Every time we visit and create content, we feel more than excited. Do your research, walk around each photo spot, and find which angles work best for you. Do not forget to make the most of your time in Italy and experience your own Dolce Vita.
