How to get to Boccadasse ?
Genoa is the capital of Liguria region, so depending on where you are coming from, we recommend that you choose to fly directly to Genoa. As we said before, you can access Boccadasse by road from Genoa and it will only take you 15 minutes. You can also reach Boccadasse by bus (about 30 minutes). Since it is located in Genoa, you can take a long walk from the city center. Please note that depending on your starting point, you will need at least an hour. The views along the way will reward you. Whichever way you choose to visit Boccadasse, it’s a good idea to combine it as a day trip from other Ligurian destinations like Camogli, Portofino or Cinque Terre. There are many trains, bus or ferries connecting these amazing places !
Since Boccadasse is very similar to Cinque Terre, the beach is its most beautiful spot. Imagine taking a dip or just a stroll against this colorful view. Boccadasse Beach is actually considered one of the best beaches on the Italian Riviera. However, it is a very crowded spot, especially on summer days. That’s why we highly recommend visiting as early as possible to escape the tourist crowds.
The best time to visit Boccadasse
It depends on your needs and preferences, but the best time to visit this amazing neighbourhood is at sunrise (not sunset). A small place like Boccadasse is overpacked during the day and in the evenings. So, it’s better to get there as early as possible to have this wonderful place to yourself ! Watching the sun rise in this picturesque place is a must-do on the Italian Riviera. Colorful houses, epic ocean views and the colors of the sky create a magical setting. If you are not an early bird and do NOT want to sacrifice your sleep, you can visit during the shoulder season when the crowds are much less. At that time, you can easily find a free spot to admire the beautiful sunset.
The best viewpoint in Boccadasse
The best viewpoint in Boccadasse is undoubtedly any spot that offers a view of the colorful old houses. However, the best place to capture them is from above. You have to climb a few steps up the rocks and reach the Church of Saint Antony (Chiesa di Sant’Antonio in Italian). The exterior of the church is the best photo spot in Boccadasse, as it overlooks the photogenic old houses and the Ligurian Sea. It is the best combination for impressive photos !
Things to know before visiting Boccadasse
Boccadasse is a tiny place or more specifically a neighborhood located in Genoa. Although it is still less known than other parts of Liguria, it is overcrowded in high season (from June to the end of August). That’s why you should get there early to avoid the hundreds of tourists. The weather in the summer months ranges from 20° to 35° degrees. You may encounter some windy days that it is difficult to enter the sea as there are many rocks and it is quite dangerous. On those days, you can enjoy a stroll through its narrow alleys or enjoy a delicious Italian meal.
Other places in Liguria to visit from Boccadasse

Just about 30 minutes from Boccadasse, you can visit the hidden gem called “Camogli”. This little town on the Italian Riviera is the perfect place to visit during your stay in Genoa. Its turquoise waters and colorful old houses make it an amazing Mediterranean destination. It’s a great alternative if you want to skip Cinque Terre, which is unfortunately overcrowded and overpriced in peak season.
It is impossible not to fall in love with this little paradise called “Portofino”. Words and photos do not do justice to how incredible this tiny village is. You can easily visit it from Genoa or Boccadasse as a day trip. You will have an amazing time there even on busy summer days.
We couldn’t complete our list without mentioning one of our favorite places not only in Italy, but also in Europe. Cinque Terre is the ultimate summer destination with lots to do and see, especially if you love authentic architecture, little alleys and of course epic ocean views. We can’t recommend Cinque Terre enough !
