Kavourotripes beach – the best beach in Sithonia

Things to know before visiting Kavourotripes beach

Before arriving at Kavourotrypes beach, it is important to know all the basic information. It is also called “Portokali” beach which means orange in Greek. It is located in the second peninsula of Halkidiki and its access is not so easy. This beach is quite secluded and only accessible by car. You have to drive north from Sarti (around 10 minutes) and then you will see the signs (on the left side) for Portokali beach (and not Kavourotrypes). In case you can’t find it, better ask the locals who are very friendly. Regarding the parking, you have to pay attention where you park your car. If you drive in to the beach, it’s easy to get lost ! We strongly recommend not visiting in the middle of the day, especially during peak season. It gets overcrowded after 10am.

In terms of facilities, even with a great reputation in recent years, this beach is remote. So, apart from the beach bar, it has no other facilities such as showers, changing rooms or restaurants. Another thing to keep in mind is that in the wild part of the beach nudity is common. So, this part of the beach is not recommended for families with kids !

Where to swim ?

The beach is divided into 2 parts. The right part is the wild beach where you can just put your towel and your belongings without security. The left part consists of the local beach bar where you will find sunbeds and some other facilities. Once again, keep in mind that Kavourotrypes beach is a small beach with only a beach bar. So, even if you want to chill at the beach bar, visit either in the morning or in the afternoon, otherwise it will be packed. Whichever of the 2 parts you choose, the water is simply amazing and gives the impression that you swim in some tropics. However, if you are an outdoor or photography lover, we definitely recommend the wild part of the beach. The rock formations with the dreamy waters create the perfect scenery for beautiful photos. If you are looking for the best conditions for your photos, the key is to get to the beach early in the morning or just before the sunset.

The best time to visit Kavourotripes beach

Since Kavourotripes beach is a well-known beach, it is crowded during the peak summer season. You should expect hundred of tourists this time of year, especially on weekends. The best way to avoid them is to either go on weekdays or visit it in the early morning or late afternoon. Sunrise or sunset is also the best time to visit, as the colors of the sky reflecting off the water and rocks make this beach even more beautiful. Of course, you can completely avoid the tourist crowds by visiting Kavourotripes beach during the shoulder season (spring or autumn). The water is still warm, but the beach is completely different. You will meet only a few people and have this dreamy beach all to yourself. Nothing is better than this to start or end your summer season !

Is Kavoutripes beach worth visiting ?

This beach is one of our favorite beaches not only in Halkidiki, but in Greece in general. It is not usual to have such landscapes in Greece ! Clear blue waters, rock formations and epic sunrise and sunset colors are the main reasons to add this beach to your itinerary. You should not leave Halkidiki without visiting Orange beach, even as a day trip.
