Things to know before visiting Lake Blausee

One of the things that makes Lake Blausee so special is its deep color of the water. The reason is that it consists of mineral-rich mountain water from an underground source. An interesting fact is the large fish swimming around and often coming close to the surface. However, you should not feed the fish. Due to the presence of fish, swimming is not allowed in the lake. Lastly, the water is very cold, about 8°C.

How to get to Lake Blausee?

Many lakes in Switzerland are not easily accessible, as they require hiking. However, you can easily get to Lake Blausee. There is also a parking lot in front of the entrance. The lake is located in Kandersteg, near Interlaken in the Bernese Oberland. You can get to the lake either by car or by bus. You can bike to the lake, which is another convenient way to reach the lake.

1-Access to Lake Blausee by car

One of the most common ways to explore the Swiss Alps region is by car. Road-tripping through the Swiss Alps is undoubtedly one of the best things to do in Europe. So, since the Blausee Nature Park is only 35 minutes from Interlaken, it will be easy to add it to your itinerary. Once you reach the Nature Park, you will find the lake on your right. However, be aware that renting a car is expensive in Switzerland. For this reason, we highly recommend that you plan and book your trip in advance.

2-Access to Lake Blause by train and bus

Switzerland has one of the best public transport systems. If you are coming from Interlaken or Lake Thun, you should first take the train (direction to Spiez) and then the bus (stop “Blausee BE”). In case you are coming from another Swiss city, you should first take the train to Interlaken and then follow the above instructions. Trains and buses run regularly everywhere in Switzerland. However, if you want to avoid traveling from one Swiss place to another by public transport, you can alternatively book a guided tour where transfer, entrance fees, guidance, etc, will be arranged. The tour starts from Interlaken and includes Beatus Caves, the Sigriswil Panorama Bridge, Thun, Lake Blausee, and Lake Thun.

Facilities at Lake Blausee

Although Lake Blausee is a tiny nature park, it is well-prepared to welcome visitors. A few meters from the parking lot, you will find the entrance where you can buy your tickets, souvenirs, or some snacks and drinks. Inside the park, there is the Blausee Café with outdoor seating to admire the lake. In case you want to stay in the park, there is also a hotel with a restaurant and a spa for a relaxing stay close to nature.

How much does it cost to visit Lake Blausee?

As we said before, you have to purchase a ticket to access the lake. You can buy them either at the entrance or directly online. Fortunately, the prices are affordable. To be honest, we do not like the fact that there is a price to access the nature park. However, since it is a small charge, it is worth it for the amazing lake and mountain views.

Best things to do at Lake Blausee

There are many activities to do at Lake Blausee. The most obvious is to walk around the little forest and the lake to enjoy its unique natural beauty. You need a maximum of 30 minutes to walk. The main activity is the boat tour. Since it is included in the price, it is a very fun thing to do. Even on hot summer days, it is a real pleasure to be on the little red boat, enjoying the lake and hearing interesting facts and stories from the guide. It only takes a few minutes and runs every 30 minutes. If you have enough time and want to spend the day there, you can enjoy a picnic or even a barbecue, since there are free fireplaces (and firewood).

In case you travel with your kids, there is a playground where they can have fun. Since there is a hotel and a spa, you can treat yourself to some quality time at the spa. In the summer months, there are open-air movie evenings and concerts! The last activity you can try is diving at Lake Blausee. It is only possible from November to April in combination with the 4-course gourmet dinner at the Blausee restaurant. The price is CHF 99 per person. Of course, you must have a diving certificate. It is a great experience, as there is a stone sculpture that you can see while diving.

Is Lake Blausee worth visiting?

It is a subjective opinion, but we both loved our time at Blausee. Not only the unique color of the lake water but also the surrounding views make it a very special place to visit in Switzerland. If you are taking a road trip within the country, you should include it in your itinerary. The boat tour is what we enjoyed the most, as you feel like you are in the middle of the lake and up close with the large fish. We would call Lake Blausee a nature park ideal for families and couples
