Things to know before visiting Blausee
One of the things that catches people’s attention is the deep color of the water of Lake Blausee. The reason is that it consists of mineral-rich mountain water from an underground source. An interesting fact is that there are large fish swimming around and often coming close to the surface. Note that you should not feed the fish ! Due to the presence of fish, swimming is not allowed in the lake (the water is very cold, about 8°C).

How to get to Lake Blausee ?
Access to many lakes is quite difficult in Switzerland as it requires hiking. However, Lake Blausee is easily accessible. There is a parking lot in front of the entrance. The lake is located in Kandersteg, near Interlaken in the Bernese Oberland. You can get to the lake by car or by bus. You can bike to the lake which is another convenient way to reach the lake.
1-Access to Lake Blausee by car
One of the most common ways to explore the Swiss Alps region is by car. To be honest, the Swiss Alps road trip is one of the best things to do in Europe. So, since the Blausee Nature Park is only 35 minutes from Interlaken, it will be easy to add it to your itinerary. There is also parking outside the park. Once you reach Lake Blausee, you will find it on your right. However, you need to be aware that if you don’t drive your own car, car hire is expensive in Switzerland. For this reason, we strongly recommend that you plan and book your trip there as soon as possible. Otherwise, the prices will be higher and you will have more limited options.
2-Access to Lake Blause by train and bus
Switzerland has one of the best public transport systems. So, it will be quite easy and more affordable to move from one place to another using public transport. To get to Lake Blausee, if you are coming from Interlaken or Lake Thun, you have to take the train (to Spiez) first and then take the bus (stop “Blausee BE”). If you are coming from another city in Switzerland, you can also search for your tickets below. Please make sure that whichever route you choose, the Nature park of Blausee will be your final destination ! Trains and buses run regularly.
However, if you want to avoid traveling from one Swiss place to another by public transport, you also have the option of booking a guided tour where transfer, entrance fees, guidance etc are arranged. The tour starts from Interlaken and includes Beatus Caves, the Sigriswil Panorama Bridge, Thun, Lake Blausee and Lake Thun. We highly recommend it as a time and money saver, since this tour included it all without requiring you to look for extra stuff.
Facilities at Blausee
Although Blausee is a tiny nature park, it is well prepared to welcome the visitors. A few steps from the parking lot, you will find the entrance where you can buy your tickets, souvenirs or some snacks and drinks. Inside the park, there is the Blausee Café (second photo) with outdoor seating to admire the lake. In case you want to stay in the park, there is a hotel with restaurant and spa for a relaxing stay close to nature.
How much does it cost to visit Blausee ?
As we said before, you have to buy a ticket to access the lake. You can buy them either at the entrance or directly online. Fortunately, the prices are affordable. To be honest, we don’t like the fact that there is a price to access the nature park. However, since it’s a small charge, it’s worth it for the amazing lake and mountain views.
Best things to do at Blausee
There are many activities to do at Blausee. The most obvious is to walk around the little forest and lake to enjoy its unique natural beauty. You need a maximum of 30 minutes to walk. The main activity is of course the boat tour. Since it is included in the price, it is a very nice activity to do. Even on hot summer days, it is a real pleasure to be on the little red boat enjoying the lake and hearing interesting facts and stories from the guide. It only takes a few minutes and runs every 30 minutes ! If you have enough time and want to spend the day there, you can enjoy a picnic or even a barbecue, since there are free fireplaces (and firewood). You must bring your own food.
In case you visit the lake with your kids, there is a playground where they can have fun. Since there is the hotel and the spa, you can treat yourself to some quality time at the spa. In the summer months, open air-movie evenings and concerts take place ! The last activity you can try is diving at Blausee. It is only possible from November to April in the combination with the 4-course gourmet dinner at the Blausee restaurant. The price is CHF 99 per person. Of couse you have to have a diving certificate. It is a great experience, as there is a stone sculpture that you can see while diving.
Is Blausee worth visiting ?
It is a subjective opinion, but we both loved our time at Blausee. Not only the unique color of the lake water, but also the surrounding view make it a very special place to visit in Switzerland. In our opinion, if you are taking a road trip within the country, you should include it in your itinerary ! The boat tour is what we enjoyed the most, as you feel like you are in the middle of the lake and up close with the large fish. We would call Lake Blausee a nature park ideal for families and couples.
